What if I want to use my insurance for Sex Therapy or Coaching?
I see you!! Wanting to use those hard-earned bennys! I do not accept insurance due to providing autonomy of your care. Sex Therapy in Minnesota are Services that are not covered under insurance and Couples or Marriage Therapy in Minnesota is not covered under most plans. I believe it is best to invest in yourself, and save up for sex therapy or meeting with a couples sex therapist near you, that way it is easily budgeted for and planned ahead. If you would like, I am able to provide you with a superbill for that you can try to submit for reimbursement of services through your insurance plan, and reimbursement is not a guarantee. Please give your insurance company a call to see if your plan(s) covers out-of-network benefits. If you are seeking out sex coaching services, as a coach, I do not bill insurance and insurance does not cover this cost. For consultation services, insurance does not cover this cost.
What are the benefits to paying for sex therapy or coaching out of pocket?
Yup, there are benefits, who knew! There is more confidentiality with your records, they are kept safe within the company and insurance does not have access to this information. Some insurance plans limit the number of sessions you can see your therapist for, some only cover a certain amount of sessions, and types of therapy. Since sex therapy isn’t paid through insurance codes, this becomes tricky. By paying out of pocket, you don’t have to feel limited only to a few short sessions and then have to stop abruptly or make a quick change of payment. There is ease, and convenience, and you are in the know of what you pay versus having to play a guessing game. Insurance sometimes only covers a percentage of therapy services in Minnesota and deductibles can be high, which, you may have to go back and forth with your insurance company, which can feel like unwanted, stressful headaches, and paying a portion out of pocket anyway. Therapy services are also a tax write-off when paying out of pocket, I am willing to send you receipts for session times as well!
What are the benefits to Seeking Sex Therapy in Minneapolis versus regular therapy?
1/10 therapists talk to their clients about sex. If you’re meeting with a therapist in Minneapolis and feel like you can’t talk to them about sex, that you’re stuck, or need a different provider, that’s a clear sign sex therapy is a great option! If you’re goals of therapy are specifically related to sex, then meeting with a sex therapist in Minneapolis, who has the training, knowledge, and tools to help is extremely beneficial. You may not know the credentials and trainings of other therapists in Minneapolis when it comes to applying sex therapy theories, interventions, and exercises to the therapy sessions. If you are also teaching your therapist about sexuality, gender, and other topics related to sexual health, that could be a sign that they have not had the proper sex therapy training and need to refer you out. Therapists try to help so badly and have to ethically be aware when they are practicing outside of their scope of practice. They will be able to give you some resources and referrals of who can help you in sex therapy moving forward!
